BHUBANESWAR: With a large number of seats vacant in the state's private medical colleges, Joint Entrance Examination Committee has decided to hold another JEE in September first week.
This decision was taken by Policy Planning Bureau (PPB), the apex body of technical education in Orissa.
Of the total 267 general seats in Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and HiTech Medical College, only 67 have been filled.
"This year, we strictly followed the MCI guideline to select students with a minimum 50 per cent in the entrance test and 50 percent in plus-II examination.
Of the 22,000 who gave the test, only 1,183 were given ranks in the merit list. The same guidelines will be followed in the second JEE," JEE vice chairman Sitaram Mohapatra said.
The state has a total of 1,000 MBBS and BDS seats with 150 seats each in three government medical colleges, and 200 seats each in Hi-Tech Medical College and KIMS. tnn
