HYDERABAD: The High Court on Wednesday provided relief to A. Sai Ram, who secured the ninth rank in EAMCET–2009, by permitting him to appear for counselling being conducted for admission to MBBS course.
The student was denied admission by the NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) as he fell short of the minimum age of 17 years prescribed by the Medical Council of India by 15 days. The State government issued an order permitting age relaxation in Sai Ram’s case, but even that did not help.
Sai Ram contended in the court that he could not be denied the seat after the government had issued the order. Justice G. Rohini, in the order, made it clear that the admission shall be subject to final orders in the case and directed the authorities to permit him to take admission as per his rank.
Meanwhile, the judge directed the government to explain the reasons behind increasing the management quota in private medical colleges. The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Swathi. The case will be heard on Thursday.
Special Correspondent from Vijayawada reports: Following the High Court’s direction, the NTRUHS has decided to admit Sai Ram. NTRUHS Registrar T. Venugopala Rao told The Hindu that the copy of the court judgment and a G.O. issued earlier giving exemption from age stipulation to Sai Ram were examined and legal opinion was taken about how to provide a seat to the candidate. As all seats in open competition category, including those in private colleges, had been filled, the university could consider admitting him into the reserved category
